The City of Salem

Located in the center of the Willamette Valley, Salem is the capital city of Oregon. Belonging to Marion County, it was founded in 1842 and has been the capital of Oregon since 1851. With a population of around 154, 637, it is the 3rd largest city in the state following Eugene and Portland. The State of Oregon is the biggest public employer in the city, with the biggest private employer being Salem Health. The city hosts several reputed universities and colleges, including Chemeketa Community College, Corban University, and Willamette University. It also has public transit from Salem-Keizer Transit (operating with the name Cherriots), Amtrak service, and also non-commercial air travel through McNary Field. Navigating through Salem will likely lead you down Oregon Route 99E, over Route 22 which connects this part of the city with West Salem across the Willamette River.. Salem includes 18 recognized neighborhood associations, including Northgate, Faye Wright, Grant, Highland, Morningside, South Central, Sunnyslope, Lansing, Central Area Downtown, along with Northeast, South, and West Salem.

Salem Housing Market

Salem is a vivacious, friendly city visited by many tourists every year to catch a glimpse of its historic architecture, world-famous museums, lavish food and dining options, along with other unique attractions. It’s also inhabited by many residents looking for a comfortable lifestyle in a convenient and beautiful location. With easy access to public transportation, good educational facilities including elementary and secondary schools under the Salem-Keizer School District, city parks like the Minto-Brown Island Park or Bush’s pasture Park, and other recreational activities, Salem can be the perfect spot to settle down. Although there has been a significant appreciation in the value of homes in Salem, it’s still a fairly affordable real estate market compared to the area’s median household incomes. You can find several kinds of Salem properties in the city, including single family homes, condos, townhomes, apartments, co-ops, and mobile homes. The median home value ranges from $115,500 to as high as $535,000, depending on the neighborhood and other related factors.
